Polaroid 405 and 545 back question

Messagepar geod100 » ven. 22 janvier 2016 / 03:57 am

Hi! I own a Polaroid 545 back and have been thinking of trying New55's wonderful looking film. However, I've also been using FP-100c and FP-3000b in a 100 series camera, and have finally thought of using these films with my 4x5. It seems the required back is the 405. I'm wondering two things:

1. Comments and experience using this back with these films?

2. Would the dark slide from the 545 work with the 405??? I could save a lot of money by purchasing a particular 405 that lacks a dark slide.

Thanks!

welcome to the forum. yes, it's a 405 back you need. a slide is easy to make from thin sheet metal or even a rigid thin plastic sheet. just cut it to the right dimensions. most of the slides for the 405 were made of plastic which broke over the years. that's why they are missing.

I cannot give you the right dimensions of the slide, as I'm on a holyday, but certainly other members could.

Hi geod100, welcome in this Instant film forum.
First to say, there is no darkslide in a 545 or 545i Polaroid sheet film holder. The envelope of the sheet does the job.
But to use Fuji FP100 films cartridges, you obviously need a Polaroid 405 or Fuji FP145 film holder. There is nothing special to tell about the use, they're not fragile, just often clean the rollers with a wet tissue. It's a good idea to purchase a cheap one whom darkslide lacks beacaus e those backs film holders remain expensive. But you could purchase here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/POLAROID-Film-B ... 0843433939
this king of darkslide made for specific Polaroid cameras but not 4x5"; The only thing to do is to cut two millimeters of the sheet in the longitudinal direction because of 405 back's darkslide is thinner in width. If you think you're able to do it, why not.

lucky guy! from 5 backs I owned, 4 had plastic slides, which I replaced in most of the cases. wheras all of the mamiya universal/polaroid 600se backs I owned had metal slides.
